Worship
Our town turned Royal Blue in the fall of 2015 as the Kansas City Royals vanquished the New York Mets bringing the World Series trophy back home. A huge parade and celebration ceremony at Union Station saw thousands and thousands of people dressed in blue cheering the team and shouting out their praises. We witnessed the lifting of hands, men, women and children rejoicing like crazy. People lined the streets standing in awe with music blaring, and celebrating with family, friends and even total strangers. The Royal Blue fans were united in one purpose. That was an amazing display of worship.
This year the focus changed to the color red of the Kansas City Chiefs and especially to a player named Patrick Mahomes. We heard of Mahomes Magic and not only this city, but the nation embraced a new football hero. Yes, these two teams were an enjoyment to watch but I wonder what our Lord thinks of all of this.
This type of worship is actually mentioned throughout the Bible.
This expression of worship is what I venture to guess is what God desires and deserves.
- Psalm 47:1 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. (KJV)
- Psalm 98:4 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. (NASB)
- Psalm 134:2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord. (NIV)
- Psalm 14:3 Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre (NASB).
- Psalm 150:1-6 Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse.2 Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.3 Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre.4 Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.5 Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals.6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! (NASB)
There are too many scriptures dealing with how to worship to list them all in this blog.
I can visualize the scene on Palm Sunday as Jesus rode the donkey triumphantly into Jerusalem. People worshipped him and shouted out hosannas. As believers we have been called out of the darkness into His magnificent light that we may also declare His praises. The scriptures encourage us to be enthusiastic, exuberant and grateful for what the Lord did for us. Worship is what God is all about. If it matters to God it should also matter to each and every one of us.
